Oro Valley Among

Within the last decade Oro Valley has blossomed into a community of vibrance, beauty, and innovation. Not only has Oro Valley become a major draw for seasonal “snowbird” visitors, but it is becoming a well-renowned community for its business successes too. Major regional employers such as Ventana Medical Systems, Sanofi-Aventis, Oro Valley Hospital, The University of Arizona Bio5, and others have put Oro Valley on the map particularly in the bio-science arenas. Many accolades have followed the town’s growth and one of the latest magazine’s ranking Oro Valley among its “Best” list is Businessweek.

Praised as one of the “Best Places to Raise Kids” in 2013, Oro Valley achieved its high ranking from Businessweek based on an evaluation of small towns (populations from 5,000 – 50,000) utilizing objective criteria. The criteria analyzed such metrics as public school performance, safety, housing costs, commute time, poverty, adults’ educational attainment, share of households with children, and diversity. Also used in the determination was the local job market, particularly the median income and current unemployment. Excluded from the list were any places in which the median family income exceeded $115,866, which is the lower limit for the wealthiest 20% of US families. Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a remarkable facility featuring many of the most spectacular desert plants and wildlife. This museum is a must see for any new Tucson resident or visitor. Located approximately 20 minutes west of downtown Tucson this makes it an easy day visit. On Saturdays in the summer the museum stays open after sundown, with special exhibits featuring nocturnal wildlife and plants. Many of the Sonoran Desert’s most notable animals are on exhibit such as coyotes, javelina, black bear and bighorn sheep. It’s advisable to visit the museum during the mornings and late afternoons, particularly when hot, in order view the wildlife when they’re most active. Also wear appropriate footwear and clothes as the museum is a more natural habitat than a typical zoo and substantial walking is required.

Lil'l Abner's Steakhouse

If you’re looking for a rustic, Tucson steakhouse experience you’ll enjoy a visit to the historic Lil’l Abner’s Steakhouse. Using a wood-fired mesquite grill, the steak, chicken, rib & fish offerings are among the best found in the city. This is the critical difference in Lil’l Abners’ food as compared with a modern steakhouse, as the outdoor mesquite grill infuses the steaks with a distinctly Southwestern flavor. Acclaim also has been heaped on the two pound Porterhouse which is rated as the best in Arizona. Live country music emanates from the property on Friday & Saturday nights for your dining and dancing pleasure. This Tucson classic restaurant is easily worth the trip to experience the tasty food & rustic steakhouse environment.

New Subdivision Coming to Oro Valley

As new construction continues to heat up again with inventory remaining relatively low, builders are actively searching for property to develop. The latest builder making an acquisition was an affiliate of Scottsdale based Maracay Homes. They purchased a 53-acre parcel on the southeast corner of Tangerine Road and La Cholla for $4.2 million. A preliminary plat for this parcel showed 68 custom home lots expected with an average square footage of around 21,000 sq. ft. per lot. This is another positive sign for the housing market’s continued recovery and gives Oro Valley homebuyers another option in the future once this piece is developed. The location should generate good traffic for the builder as that corridor is well traveled.
