Located north of Tucson, just beyond Oro Valley & Marana, sits the Owl Head Buttes area at the foothills of the Tortolita Mountains. This rural area gets its name from a rock outcropping nearby which also serves as a wonderful view in its own right. Surrounded by State Trust Land on many sides, this region is the perfect getaway from city life for those looking for a quiet retreat. While power is available to some of the lots, many folks looking in the Owl Head Buttes vicinity are aiming for an “off grid” lifestyle. Utilizing solar power, water harvesting, composting toilets, and other sustainable techniques, this allows for a reduction of one’s carbon footprint while still enjoying many of the modern amenities.
The heart of this region is situated approximately 35 minutes away from the town of Catalina. Getting to Owl Head Buttes is most easily accomplished by heading north on SR-77 from Tucson, taking SR-79 NW until reaching Park Link Road, heading west on Park Link Road, and south on Owl Head Ranch Road. It’s approximately 8 miles of dirt roads beginning at Owl Head Ranch Road to many of the lots, the first 5 of which are extremely well graded. While a high clearance vehicle is ideal, particularly after heavy rain, it’s possible to make it out in most standard passenger vehicles.
